The founder of the Woodburn Group,
John D. Woodburn established the
Company in 1989. His vision is to
improve organizations through efficient
and effective Enterprise Resource
Planning (ERP) systems. In 1999, he co-authored
the AICPA Strategic Business
Initiative and is chair of the AICPA
Electronic Business Task Force. In 2000
he was selected to serve on the AICPA
Top Ten Technology Group, which
establishes the technologies that will
most impact the CPA profession.
Before founding the Woodburn Group, Woodburn worked
at Ernst & Young and was a controller
for Proex Photo Systems. He was involved in the
system selection and implementation of Great
Plains at Proex. He was the project manager on the
first ever implementation of a financial
accounting system on Microsoft SQL Server in
Minnesota. He has been involved in hundreds of
implementations since the mid-1980’s. Woodburn is
on the Board of Directors of ATRAC and
Vernon Valley Farms and an advisor to several
start-up ventures.
Woodburn co-founded and chaired the MNCPA
Information Technology Conference. He chaired
the first AICPA Electronic Business Conference
(May, 1999) and the first AICPA Electronic
Business Strategic Forum (July, 2000). He was
involved with a project to establish a
specification for the digital exchange of financial
information (XBRL, see www.XBRL.org).
Woodburn was also selected as one of five people to
participate on an expert review panel for
the AICPA E-Business Audit Risk Alert. Frequently,
he speaks on electronic business issues
affecting business and the CPA community. He was
appointed to the Great Plains Electronic
Commerce Partner Advisory Board and the Niku
Partner Advisory Board. Woodburn has been
published in the AICPA’s The CPA Letter. In 1999,
Accounting Technology listed Woodburn as
one of fifteen “Killer VARs” in the United
States and Accounting Today listed him as one of the
100 most influential people in accounting
technology in America.
Woodburn, a Certified Public Accountant, graduated
with a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and
French from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter,
Minnesota.
