Coverage of
The 2002 Exact Software Conference
By J. Carlton Collins, CPA

General Information

The 2002 Exact Software Conference started on Friday, May 16 with a luncheon followed by yours truly with the opening key note lecture. You can see my PowerPoint outline for this presentation here: http://www.accountingsoftwareadvisor.com/macola/macola/macola.htm. The event officially ended on Monday, May 21. Heavy pre-conference and post conference training classes were also available.

There were 300 people in attendance - I think that this number included all Exact employees and Exhibitors. The event was held at the Cincinnati Convention Center and Marriott Riverfront hotel. The event was well-planned and the food was some of the best conference food I've ever had which included crab cakes, steaks, and all you can eat shrimp, oysters, crab legs, and roast beef on a river boat dinner cruise.

The number of Exhibitors were down sharply from the year before. Apparently, Exact's major overhaul of their product and the decision not to release source code to third party developers (for now) has left many third party add-on solutions out in the cold. Exact personnel explained that the situation could not be avoided, and that too many other changes to the product were planned in the short term to worry about making code sets available outside the organization.
