System Requirements to use Small Business Manager

Small Business Manager can be run on most Windows networks.  The following table lists hardware recommendations for a Small Business Manager server installation.  Workstation requirements are less.

Item

Recommendation

Operating system

Windows XP Home Edition, Windows XP Professional Edition, Windows 2000 Server, Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 6 or later), or Windows 98.

Database

Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine or Microsoft SQL Server 2000.

Unless you specify otherwise, Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine is installed as the database during installation. To use an existing Microsoft SQL Server 2000 installation with Small Business Manager, you must use dictionary order, case-insensitive sort order.

Processor

PC with 300 MHz or higher processor clock speed required; Intel Pentium/Celeron family, AMD K6/Athlon/Duron family, or compatible processor recommended.

Available hard disk space

500 MB + space for accounting data.

Hard disk controllers

Dual-channel Fast and Wide SCSI-2 controller.

Disk seek time <= 9ms recommended.

RAM

128 MB for first 4 users + 16 MB for each additional user.

CD-ROM

Yes.

Network card

32-bit, 10/100 MB Ethernet.

Notes

Users should set virtual memory size to at least the amount of RAM in the computer plus 11 MB. (Windows NT 4.0 uses this by default.)
